Our Journey
Historical
Concrete Testing Services started in November 1982 with the aim of providing a comprehensive cube testing service to the construction industry. In 1985 the company started expanding its activities into diamond core drilling for the testing of in situ concrete. Over the years it expanded to include many related tests remaining specialists is what we do. In 1986 customized software was introduced to efficiently and seamlessly control the collection, storage, scheduling, testing and reporting of work done. Improvements and expansion of services in 1987 included a controlled heating curing room and testing of aggregates. In 1988 facilities for the preparation of concrete, mortar, plaster and screed mix designs were introduced. The quality system in place allowed for obtaining SANAS accreditation on many of the test in 1989. CTS moved to a fit for purpose laboratory building in 1992 and again in 2021 providing a better working environment and much needed space for an expanding business. This expansion allowed CTS to regularly offer new services. These include a ‘laboratory on site’ service in 1993, brick testing in 2001, cement testing during 2018, and tile adhesive testing in 2022. Concrete Testing Services has grown from strength to strength building up a reputation of excellence.
Objectives
Our objectives not only pertain to testing but also to assist and encourage contractors, readymix companies and manufacturers of cementitious products to do routine testing in the correct manner with the correct frequency. We will ensure that all tests done are carried out by trained personnel in accordance with accepted test methods. In order to achieve this, it is our policy to develop, install, maintain and uphold the dynamic Quality Management System by satisfying and improving upon the requirements of ISO 17025 General Requirements for the Competence of Calibration and Testing Laboratories.
Training
Since starting the business in 1982, Concrete Testing Services have trained many technicians in the industry equipping trainees to be become competent and conversant with many aspects relating to the materials used in the construction industry. This is an important and ongoing objective especially in South Africa where demand for providing a skilled workforce has never been greater.
